Treeconomy and Rebalance Earth announced last Monday, September 15th, 2025, a new partnership, having been awarded a grant from the UK Space Agency’s ‘Unlocking Space for Business’ programme. The funding is for their joint project, ALAN (Accelerated Landscape Assessment for Nature Investments), which will embed advanced satellite-based technology into natural capital investment workflows to drive trust, transparency, and scale.
Rebalance Earth is a boutique fund manager dedicated to connecting companies, investors, and communities to fund and implement nature-based solutions. With a core mission to foster resilience through nature by aligning capital with conservation efforts, Rebalance Earth manages a fund that enables investment in nature restoration, with keystone backing from the West Yorkshire Pension Fund.
The ALAN project will upgrade a proven Minimum Viable Product, developed by Treeconomy during a previous UK Space Agency grant, into a fully investment-grade capability enhancing Treeconomy’s Sherwood platform for natural capital investors. By plugging satellite-derived insights directly into Rebalance Earth’s investment processes, the tool will make due diligence, monitoring, and reporting faster, more transparent, and audit-ready.
In practice, this will enable quicker project screening, clearer baselines and trend analysis, and will help close the gap between a project's promised and delivered impact. The goal is to provide investors with a shared, defensible view of impact, raising the bar for evidence in the market.
This collaboration will address a critical barrier to scaling the nature-based solutions market: the need for robust, data-driven tools that can help financiers deploy capital quickly, confidently, and cost-effectively. By streamlining the screening and monitoring of projects, the partnership aims to accelerate the flow of private finance towards high-quality nature restoration efforts that combat climate change and enhance biodiversity.
Walid Al Saqqaf, CTO & Co-founder of Rebalance Earth, said:
“Any serious nature investment starts with high-quality data. With Treeconomy, we’re hard-wiring satellite evidence into how we originate, diligence and monitor projects—so capital can move with confidence.”
Harry Grocott, CEO of Treeconomy, commented:
“We’re incredibly excited to partner with Rebalance Earth on this next phase of innovation. Our definition of success from day one at Treeconomy has been to get nature investments into everyone’s pension funds - partnering with Rebalance gets us that step closer to our goal. Over the next 6 months we’ll partner closely with their investment team, and with the support of the UK Space Agency, project ALAN will deliver the trust and transparency required to help accelerate private investment into the nature restoration projects our planet urgently needs.”
Lydia Green, Head of Unlocking Space at the UK Space Agency, said:
“The ALAN project is a powerful example of how satellite data can unlock private investment in nature-based solutions, bringing greater transparency, speed, and confidence to a sector that’s vital for tackling climate change and biodiversity loss.
“This is exactly the kind of innovation our Unlocking Space for Business programme is designed to support, using space technology to deliver measurable, real-world impact”
